they are simply the best....we loved seeing the whole group and not just the limited best pics at the private viewing today at lunch....

Craig Apr 17th, 2005 03:38 PM

Bob - We were pleased to provide you with a private viewing. It is a special perk for joining us for a mini New England GTG. Loved your Burma and Angkor Wat photos as well.

rhkkmk Apr 17th, 2005 05:31 PM

craig---yopu may have started a fight as others will wonder why we kept the min GTG secret....it wasn't secret....we both knew as did andy...

Craig,

Those are magnificent photographs. I can see you truly had a grand time. Thank you for making them available. What camera did you use?

A minor quibble on one of your captions: It is Gurudwara (not Qurudwara). Literally means "door to the Guru."

Craig Apr 17th, 2005 06:10 PM

We had two cameras: a Fuji Finepix 3800 and a Canon Powershot A95. About 2/3 of the shots were taken with the Fuji. As far as spellings, I have noticed that throughout Asia and India that translations result in many different spellings, none of which can be considered correct. I have seen a number of different variations on spellings on a lot of places we have visited.

Wonderful photos, thanks Craig. Your trip was in mid-Feb, I think? Lots of blue sky.

WinterTravel Apr 17th, 2005 09:24 PM

Craig - your photos are simply marvelous! After viewing them, we are even more excited to be going to India at the end of the year. As you know, we've been debating whether or not to go to Ranthambore ... your tiger photo was stunning, which makes the idea tempting again. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful pictures.

Craig & Jeane's Rajasthan pictures, in particular, are spectacular. Few places on earth are as colourful. I think one of the reasons for Craig's successful India trip is that he researched it well. Top that with stays in Amarvilas and Rajvilas, and you can't go wrong.

En passant: although I am partial to the Canon point-and-shoot digicams (especially the PowerShot G5), the Fuji Finepix 3800 is an excellent product.

Craig amazing pictures!! I feel like I just went on the trip with you! Both composition and quality, amazing.
I had a Canon Powershot too and just upgraded to a Powershot Pro1, which is a little bulkier but has much more of a zoom....although judging by the pictures the zoom you have serves you well. Thanks for taking the time I know is involved in posting them and sharing them with us! Donna

Craig-great photos. Thanks. Did Bob make you pay for lunch? He can be very tricky, e.g., our last dinner with him in Boston, two weeks ago.

Craig Apr 18th, 2005 05:00 PM

Andy - wish you could have been with us. Hopefully we can all get together in the summer and compare notes after Bob and Karen return from their next trip.

Thanks to everyone for their kind feedback on our photos.

rhkkmk Apr 18th, 2005 06:32 PM

craig---why didn't you tell andy that we charged the lunch to his account??

Kathie Apr 18th, 2005 07:24 PM

Lovely photos, Craig. It looks like you had a wonderful trip!

austine Apr 18th, 2005 09:26 PM

Craig. Your pictures are beautiful. What time of year did you go to India? It looks like the weather was perfect.

hawaiiantraveler Apr 18th, 2005 09:58 PM

Craig fabulous pictures! Great tiger shots. Thanks for sharing.

Craig Apr 19th, 2005 02:07 AM

The photos were taken the last two weeks of February. The skies were blue and cloudless almost all of the time. We did encounter occassional haze in Agra and Delhi.

Fantastic photos, Craig!! India looks so interesting and colorful...I am already so excited about my trip in November and looking at your photos makes me even more so. Once again, thanks for the recommendation about Sher Bagh-hope we get to see a tiger too!

agtoau Apr 19th, 2005 11:57 AM

I hear that tonight's episode of Amazing Race has the contestants negotiating camels and elephants in India. They were in Lucknow last week, wonder if they're going to Rajanthan tonight.

mrwunrfl Apr 19th, 2005 07:28 PM

I didn't realize how beautiful the Taj Mahal was. Or maybe I had and now I realize it again after seeing your photos. I noticed that some of the Indian men had sweaters or jackets on. Maybe they are the kind who think it is cold when the temps drop under 80F. Looked like the four of you were dressed warmly when you went game viewing (I suppose that was Rathambore, sorry I didn't read your trip report).

Your webpage is suspended because of high traffic! Wanted to ask about the great red fortress, with the car park out front. Where is that?

Craig Apr 20th, 2005 02:29 AM

On mosts days, the high temperatures were in the upper 60's or low 70's. For the morning game drives at Ranthambore, it was downright cold - Sher Bagh gave us hot water bottles to keep warm. Jeane wore her hat and gloves. The "great red fortress" is Delhi's appropriately named Red Fort.
