Have a wonderful time, Craig and Jeanne...We loved Vietnam...both North and South.....If they try to get you to ride on the front of one of those bicycles....politely decline. (we didn't, and it's one of those experiences that we shook our heads later and wondered "What were we thinking!!!)
Have a safe journey. Looking forward to your trip report

We're on our way - arrived in Chicago 1/2 hour early and did not even have to wait for a gate. In the Red Carpet Club business center using one of its computers right now - no free wi-fi for non-United travelers so my iPhone is slow (but we did get 4 free beverage coupons).

hi craig, hope you and jeane have a great and safe trip.
if the rc gave you free drink coupons as non-united travlers, i don't understand why they didn't give a free wifi card for you to use. anyway, you got a good back up.

Craig,
I know what you mean about ANA business class service. First time I have ever seen a flight attendant put on an apron and gloves and clean the bathrooms in our section every hour on the hour. I was amazed.
Aloha!

Settling in nicely but very tired after a long day today. Had absolutely no jet lag the first day. Crossing streets has been no problem except at the busiest two-way streets during rush hour. Metropole is fine, they lost internet service for a while this morning but that could happen anywhere. The Club Floor in the Opera Wing is the place to be. If you read the reviews on TA, you'll see that the lesser mortals have not been as happy staying elsewhere in the hotel.
We have toured with Hanoikids for the past two days. Our "half day" tours stretched into the mid/late afternoon since a local lunch stop was part of the tour. Details to follow in my trip report but because of the big Vietnamese lunches (main meal of the day for them) we have snacked on the delicious canapes and free drinks in the Metropole Club lounge for dinner. The free breakfasts have also been excellent.
Weather has been warm and humid, overcast with sun breaking through occasionally. Not much a/c at local sites, restaurants and stores so a little uncomfortable at times.
We head out for an overnight at Halong Bay tomorrow morning.
