Thanks for this detailed trip report Dianne! My boyfriend and I are considering Thailand for next November and this is very helpful. We would like to focus mostly on wildlife viewing and ancient sites, with a few days on a beach somewhere too.

Very interesting. I agree that Phuket is just so money-grabbing nowadays. Everyone is trying to sell you something, it is a shame so many tour companies do not offer something new. Fantasea is good but expensive.

Hi Ross, this is the entire report, there's nothing else to send!

I noticed that for 2002, Cosmos has dropped Phuket and the itinerary spends 6 nights in Northern Thailand instead. It looks like they really do read those tour evaluation sheets they have clients fill out at the end of the tour. Our group and others too I'm sure, all suggested the trip needed more time in the north.

If a person wanted to add a few days on a beach at the end, it would be easy to do that independently.

Hi Diane,
Thanks for the wonderful report- it's very helpful. Do you know know the name of the elephant camp in Chiang Mai? I'd love to see it while I'm there.
Heather

The elephant camp we visited was Mai Sa. A lot of places in Thailand have very similar names and I found it hard to keep them all straight. For example, we also visited a town called Mae Sai.
