"Copying" Favorite Clothes
 

I've read about people having clothes "copied" in Bangkok. It seems like a great idea if you have articles of clothes that fit good and you would like copies in different materials.

Anyone have any tailor recommendations of places that do this affordably and do good quality work?

What kind of clothing do you want copied? Are you sure you want copies rather than custom-made clothing? And what kinds of fabrics will you be looking for?

Well, from what I've read the "copy" part is just for sizing and the way it fits. Thinking about a particular pair of shorts that fit a bit differently than I've ever had and also a jacket. Not sure on fabrics...

Sorry for not being clear. I guess I'm just looking for specific tailor recommendations that do good quality work and are affordable. All the recommendations I've seen online are mostly for suits. I'm thinking for a variety of clothing.

Hopefully Rhkkmk or Guenmai will see this. they both get lots of tailoring down in Bangkok. I've never been happy with my results, mostly because I never allow time for a proper amount of fittings.

My opinion is that the copy never as good as original in fit, fabric, button or zipper.

For women's clothing, Cotton House comes highly recommended. I'll let Bob tell you where to have men's clothing made.

BTW, the "copy" part is usually for style, a tailor will measure you carefully and make something that fits you exactly, but you will need to allow for three fittings to get a good result. If you are having custom-made clothing done, you don't really need to bring something to be "copied," but you do need to know exactly what you want, down to the smallest detail. That is where photos or drawings of what you want come in.

Many fabrics are readily available in Bangkok, but some are not. I needed a heavy silk crepe that I could not find in Bangkok, but it was available in Hong Kong.

I have used Julie's cotton and silk on New Rd. It's across the street from the Oriental. They don't have a great fabric selection, so bring your own is best.

J.s. Thai silk on the second floor of Rivercity is another place to go. If you don't want silk, bring your own fabric to most of the places listed above. We found a new Men's shirt maker on the second floor of the Sheraton Orchid hotel just on the left after you cross the bridge that connects the hotel to Rivercity.. I will say the cost of tailoring in BKK has jumped quite a bit in the last few years. What once was a bargain in no longer, BUT you do have a custom made garment.
