Conrad Singapore

It's been asked a few times, but I'm wondering if anyone's stayed there recently - what think about the Conrad Singapore? I'm staying there on a free night soon. Is it close to any cheap eats, or anything worthwhile>? I have a day to kill there, and frankly, I'm not thrilled.

Here is what asiahotels says about the location:

"Flanked by 3 major buildings of the Marina area, namely Marina Square shopping centre, Millenia Walk shopping centre and Suntec City Shopping & Convention Centre, there are plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment options easily available.

The business districts of Shenton Way and Raffles Place are in close proximity, taking approximately 10 minutes by car. City Hall MRT is a 10-minute walk away, and there are many buses along the main road and a steady stream of taxis. The Esplanade theatre and Merlion statue are within a 15-minute walking distance.

Conrad also offers a complimentary shuttle service to Shenton Way, City Hall MRTand Beach road.

Changi Airport is a 20-minute drive away."

For me, that wouldn't be a great location, as you are some distance (in the heat) from the MRT. But Singapore is a relatively compact city, and you'l be able to get whereever you want to go, just with a bit more hassle than if you stayed some place closer to an MRT station. There is lots to do in Singapore, and plenty of inexpensive good food (and more expensive fabulous food).

Like Kathie said, The Conrad is surrounded by Marina Square (currently under renovation), Millenia Walk and Suntec City. If you're into shopping and eating, there is plenty of shops and restaurants at both the shopping centres.

If you're interested in art, you can take a 15-minute walk to the Singapore Art Museum (http://www.nhb.gov.sg/SAM), then have dinner at Lei Garden Chinese restaurant in Chijmes (which is right opposite the museum).

If you get really bored, watch a movie or something.

Lei Garden restaurant is wonderful. Also try Indochine Restaurant. There are 4 locations. Why are you not thrilled about spending time in Singapore? Just curious. Happy Travels!

Last Feb. I did stay at the Conrad for 2 nights. The MRT station is not close, but you could stay inside for most of the walk to the station if it happens to be hot and humid outside. There is a row of restaurnts and a bar just across the street. The bar has live music and outdoor sitting.
As far as the Conrad? I've stayed in 3 so far. The BKK, HKG and SIN. SIN was the least satisfactory stay. I was somewhat disappointed with the room and even more so with the service, which seemed cold and indifferent. The comparison is based on the other Conrads, not on anything else.
That said, it's a very nice property, very rich in style and great for a business stay.
