Combining goodwill with tourism.. visiting the plf in Siem Reap
I am so excited to be nearing the countdown to our January trip to Bangkok and Siem Reap and other parts of Cambodia. Thanks to posts here I have learned a lot about the area, and most of all, I have been directed to take a look at the wonderful efforts achieved at the Ponheary Ly Foundation./ www.theplf.org. I hope to be able to meet Ponheary herself, and/or Lori Carlson ( who I understand is/was a poster here at Fodor's).
I read about it here, and contacted them and am now creating a simple fundraiser for my family and friends to also help out if they wish . We hope to be able to give them donations for at least 30 bicycles, among other necessities, when we visit them in January. I encourage all of you to also take a look at local charities that are recommended when you travel. It has made the preparation for this trip MORE than meaningful in a very special way. I have this foundation's children in my head everyday, and when we go there, I know I will be planning to return. You can find this fundraiser and more at www.razoo.com. This one is called "Blessed with Bikes" |
Excellent!!! It will make your trip so much more meaningful. It will bring you as much joy and the children.

I'm not even there yet, and watching everyone's videos from their trips is so inspiring.

I know you'll have a wonderful time. My husband's and my time with Ponheary and our brief 1/2 day at Tchey school are one of the most amazing gifts we've ever been given. It can be hard sometimes for family and friends to fully take in what touches you -- but I don't know anyone who has been to Cambodia who hasn't returned changed by the grace and humility of the people. You'll find a lot of company on this board to share your experiences with when you return!

Where did you stay, jenskar2? We haven't finalized our accommodations yet.
