Interesting article indicates that it wasn't just a collection of temples around there

Thanks, a nice short summary. What is still standing are the temples, but the area around Angkor was a huge city. Indeed, the Khmer empire stretched not only though much of Cambodia but into Thailand and part of Laos as well.

I think last week I saw some show that statee that angkor was bigger then london at the time. but don't quote me on that.

Orgy, I believe I read that as well. Angkor was a huge city at the time that most European cities were towns.

The temples at Angkor were built over hundreds of years. The earliest we saw were built in the 800s, the latest in the 1100s.

wayne: thanks for posting this interesting article.

Makes me think that it's probably time to go back to Angkor for another visit. Haven't been back since eons ago when the only mode of transportation to the temples was with a bunch of farmers and their chickens flying around the station wagon. :)
