Clothes to pack for april 14th trip to China
Am leaving the 14th on an OAT trip to China, visiting the usual places, Beijing, Xian, Yangtze river cruise, Llasa, Tibet, Hong Kong. The temps seem to be around the 60's. Shall I pack sping clothes and some sweaters, or spring and cotton shirts? Thanks for any responses.

In Hong Kong, temps are slightly below normal now, but generally in April temps will be in the high 70s to low 80s and it is usually quite muggy, RH is generally above 75% and often close to 90% (which the websites don’t show). So lighter clothes are OK, but have layers just in case temps are cooler. I would avoid shorts and you won’t need them in the other places you are going anyway as it will be cooler there so why bother to pack them. On the other hand, the air con on buses and in shops and restaurants can be freezing so bring at least a sweater for that. Also, we can get rain and fog, so a pair of flat shoes than can take water would be appropriate. A small folding umbrella would be good too. Do not need a raincoat (too hot most likely), but you may want one for other parts of the PRC (Beijing and Xian esp and the river cruise perhaps). Yes I think you are in for cold temps in Tibet, assuming you get there. Bring your phone if it has a camara (even if the phone won’t work there the camera should) as you may end up being an on-the-spot reporter, and the police may not notice a phone as much as they would a camera. Most of the real reporters can’t get in at all.

Definitely bring sandals and shorts for Hong Kong. I went to China and Hong Kong this time last year and I was EXTREMELY uncomfortable wearing loafers and jeans in HK. If you are going to walk alot, lighter clothing is absolutely necessary. The weather was very variable in China and I wore a mid weight coat most of the time except for in Beijing where the weather was much warmer.
