Climbing Fuji-san in the fall...

Hi, folks. Still in the midst of planning my October vacation to Japan and I'd really love to climb Mt. Fuji, starting from the fifth station at Go-gome, as most do.

My question is, how feasible is that trek during, say, the second weekend in October? Does the weather usually comply? Are people even allowed to climb it then? What should I know before I go?

I'm eager for any wisdom or advice. :)

Many thanks,
Kim D.

I wouldn't recommend it unless you are highly experienced. The season for every-day hikers is July and August. http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6901.html is informative.

Been doing a bit more research for you...From October to June, you need full winter climbing gear. First snow is typically mid September. If you use google.com or yahoo.com and search fuji climb october you'll find all the info you need.

I climbed in August during the night to be at the summit at sunrise. Would not do that in October.
Also small possibility of typhoon. October is otherwise a decent time of year to visit Japan.

Thanks for the sage advice, you guys. I guess it may be smartest for me to save Fuji-san for my NEXT trip to Japan--and I do hope there will be a next trip. :)
