Vertigo at the Banyan Tree sounds interesting - What kind of food is served? I too will be looking to have one special "romantic" dinner (hopefullY) with my guy in June. Would this be better than a dinner/cruise? Or are the dinner/cruise way too touristy of a meal?

Dinner cruise food isn't much to write home about. The atmosphere is the key to these nighttime river cruises. It's peaceful and quiet along the river. It's great to see the lights at some of the wats, etc. I have been on several dinner cruises just because I like the serenity, NOT because the food is anything exceptional.

aloha lindsey, long time no see. hows singapore?

on vertigo, is it outside like sirocco? can you rec. any other similar type dining experience?

Vertigo is a bar. IMO the dinner cruises are very touristy. The new Metropolitan has some great restaurants. I agree that Thailand in general is a place where hotels realise they have to compete for patronage with non-hotel, stand alone restaurants so hotel restaurants are reasonable and high quality.

Sorry Hobbes, but Vertigo is most definitely a restaurant. There is a section of the roof that is a bar but most of the space is for dining.

I can't compare the food to Scirocco, because I have not been there. The only way I can describe it is Asian fusion.....I had a laksa with seafood, that was made with green tea noodles. Unusual and delicious.

Hey Kuranosuke, things are good in Singapore....getting ready for a big festive Chinese New Year....decorations are up everywhere....you should come back and see it. We ate at No Signboard Seafood the other night before the Eric Clapton concert at Indoor Stadium....best chili crabs I have had in ages, and a great view to boot.

i guess i should add something about my observation at sirocco one nite in 2005...we went for a drink to the bar....all of a sudden a huge thunder storm came up....we ran for cover...all of the outside diners had their evening ruined as they were hurried away too....i assume they did not have to pay but i have no idea...that was june i tbink when it rains frequently in the evening
