re raffles grill, room looks lovely., on the website it says that the dress is 'smart elegant' ... how dressy is the restaurant?

Smart elegant is a new one for me.

Smart casual usually means no jeans, no sneakers, collar shirts for men. On weeknights you get business people in business attire, but really Singapore is mostly always relaxed.

I just looked at the Raffles website. I've actually never been to the "Raffles Grill." The correct name for the restaurant that I was referring to is the "Long Bar Steak House." I'm sure both are lovely, but I just wanted to make that distinction.

Marmot, I went to the one at the Botanical Garden. I must agree with you about the hype. So far, I've had the tastiest food at Raffles Coffee Shop and the hawker stands! When I get there I will be spending my time trying out restaurants. And of course, browsing the wonderful food supermarkets. It's like being a kid in a candy store for me. Last time I was there I was missing turkey so much I "smuggled" two butterball roasts back here in my suitcase! Of course I had to cook them immediately as they had defrosted by the time I got back to Korea, but oh was it worth it. We used to get lamb here, but the foreigners just did not support it and so it has vanished as so many other things do. We have some american beef, but they don't cut it as I'm used to, so I have to be creative. I only found ground beef once and I stocked my freezer. The korean beef and australian beef are strong for my palate. Oh I can't wait to have a "real" burger at Dan Ryan's! Pat W.

Great, started compiling last night, and should finish it over the next day or two. i havent been to these places, it will just be based on what people have said on all these pots on this forum, as well as some info from blogs etc. but having it in list form should make it easier to sort through!

I have put together a tentative list of recommendations based on a combinaton of restaurants that are consistenly mentioned on this list, as well as some other blogs mentioned on here.

The reason i thought it might not be good to post is also because it is pretty much just a condensed version of what all of you have posted. i.e. info thats already on here, so it might be unnecessary or repetitive??

i made it because i wanted something easy to travel with, so its not going to provide you with any NEW info as such (as i havent been to any of these places yet), but might be a good resouce to take away with you ...

If you still think its something worth posting i am very happy to put it up. As longs as people dont think i am trying to take all their hard work and ideas and present it as mine! ;)
