First off, in case you didn't know, Christmas is NOT a holiday here. It will be business as usual everywhere.
All of the major hotel restaurants will have special dinners on the eve as well as the day. I've been getting emails from them for weeks about their offerings. So far, the most appealing is from Bourbon Street, a long established independent New Orleans style restaurant on Sukhumvit Road. |
You should check with the hotel where you are staying, as all of the hotels have Christmas and New Years special meals. For New Year's eve, I recommend staying along the river so you can watch the fireworks.
Of course, both of these holidays are western holidays. The Thai New year is in March/April. |
My family and I and friends have enjoyed many Christmas feasts at the Dining Room on the Lobby floor of the Grand Hyatt Erawan. Pleasant efficient staff and great food. Not cheap but worth it IMO. Must make reservations. Merry Christmas.

Christmas may not be an official holiday in Thailand, but you will see plenty of Christmas decorations around Siam and Chit Lom.

Well, with Thais, any excuse for a party - and a sale - will do, regardless of whether or not they have a clue what it's all about!

From a Thai: Christmas celebration started from the pagan worship of the god Odin right? Many scholars believe that Christ was not born on December 25th and the celebration was heavily "commercialised" in the USA during the 19th century. Make sense to try and commercialise it more by having sales in Bangkok.

The first time we went to bkk, we were there over christmas. It was different to hear silent night being played in the drug store! I think we have some good pics of a big christmas tree outside of MBK and lots of people dressed like elves!
