Christmas in Bangkok
We are interested in attending midnight Mass this year in Bangkok. Any suggestions for a church? We're staying at the President Solitaire. Thanks!
|
what denomination?
|
HT - midnight "mass" is usually celebrated by those who are Roman Catholic. Protestants call it "holy communion". Most other denominations don't celebrate Christmas.
|
Sorry, I should have said-Roman Catholic. Thanks
|
I grew up in the Episcopal church and we always called the Christmas service midnight mass, even though it was of course not a mass, but holy communion.
Guess Midnight mass justs sounds better. As a matter of fact, it wasn't even at midnight, but at 11pm. ((G)) |
Lucy, I also grew up in the Episcopal Church but when I saw "midnight mass" used in the generic sense as it was here, I just assumed (correctly) that it was a Roman Catholic poster. BTW, our service was held at 11:30 pm and yes, some called it "midnight mass". :->

There is a Catholic church near the river, a short walk from River City. Sorry, I don't know where the President Solitare is, so don't know whether that would be convenient.

the hotel is on soi 11, sukhumvit....
there is a cathedral, as mentioned above, on oriental lane, just across the street from the oriental hotel....we walked through there one day and heard the kids choir rehersing and they were very good... |
Holy Redeemer Church is a large Catholic church on 123/19 Soi Ruam Rudi, off of Wireless Rd. They have Thai and English masses. I'm not sure about a midnight mass on Christmas.
