China trip Part 3
 

Today we head for the Terra Cotta Warrior Museum. Before that we went to the South Gate Wall of the city and walked on it, visited a gov't sponsored jade factory, and then had the best food of the trip....a lunch consisting of 25 different dumplings!
We left the restaurant and drove 45 minutes to reach the "pits" of the terra cotta warriors. Words can't begin to explain the sight of nearly a thousand warriors standing in the pit beneath us. Picture a football field full of life-size warriors in armor, standing at attention and you are in the high bleachers, looking down on them. We were there 2+ hours.The vendors are waiting for your return to your buses and are like vultures! (They are not allowed to be on the grounds, so hide their wares until you are almost upon them, and then...start their negotiating!) The first vendor offered to sell me 5 boxed clay warriors for $20. I passed him by. A few feet farther, one offered me the same for $10. I kept walking, almost to my bus....that vendor said $10. I offered $5.00 and it was a deal! Once we were on the bus we all shared our stories: some tour members had spent $20 at the gift shop for the same items I got for $5.00!

Can you tell me the name of the restaurant where you had your dumpling lunch? What did you pay?

I'm sorry...I don't know the name of the restaurant. We were on the Odysessys-Unlimited tour; I didn't notice the name of the place and they took care of the bill.

Monica -- Da Fang Chang across the street from the Bell Tower Hotel has the same dumplings feast, starts around $10. According to wiselindag, no dumplings can beat the ones in Shanghai.

Thanks Shanghainese, I do have Da Fang Chang on my list of restaurants.
