China Tour guide and language

hi all, we are planning to go to China and were wondering about a couple of things...
1. Can anyone recommend good tour operators
2. We've heard its best to have someone who can translate for you to make the trip a lot easier...we also need vegetarian accomodation. Is this true? or can we do it ourselves?

Thanks!
Jit

We went with Pacific delight tours. We had a National tour guide who stayed iwth us the entire trip as well as local tour guides in each major city. It was the MOST WONDRFUL trip we have ever taken. Language with our guide, Jason, was no problem. He was highly educated and a fluent English speaker. I also stay vegetarian when traveling and it was definately no problem. I did, however, consume a lot of peanuts, french fries and beer!Veggies nd fruit and rice were avaiable everywhere we went.

you can do it on your own.if you need, just hire private guide in some days.because most of my clients from here they do the tour on their own.

I am a 55yr woman andjust returned from travelling in China for a month on my own.I stayed in hostels I only booked my first 5 nights and last 5 night accom before I left and did the rest while travelling.I learned hello and thankyou in Chinese and had a Mandarin dictionary with me.The hostels booked all my bus, train, flights, cruise and other hostels for me really easily and most cases cheaper and I ate from hostels bought food from supermarkets and street food.I wouldn't travel any other way,And I met some great people along the way. There are vegitarian restaurants in a lot of temples which are really well priced and delicious.I ate at 1 in Chengdu (Wen Shu temple)hope this helps.

It is up to personal taste. Some people who like to organize everything by him or herself then it is ok to DIY.
