China hotels with family

Traveling to Shanghai and Beijing in June. My wife and I have two 'kids' ages 18 and 21. We've almost always been able to stay in one room. It seems that many hotels in China don't have accomdations (e.g. two double or queen beds) that allow for that. Any suggestions or hotel recommendations would be appreciated.

Don't know what your budget is but when in Shanghai I usually stay here: http://www.eversunshinehotel.com/english/js_en.htm
They have 2-bedroom units.

Willing to pay around $150/night. Would like to find something comparable to typical Hilton, Marriott, etc. hotels.

I don't think that you will sleep 4 people for $150 in the Hilton or something equivalent.

I was able to find two adjoining rooms at the Swissotel Beijing. Can anyone comment on this place? It's location?

The Swisshotel is not very recent but ok. Its location is good, near ring road 2 and over a subway station.

I am looking at the Astor House Hotel . It is a historic property and it does have some rooms like you want with a prepaid early bird reservation.

The swisshotel is not really near the major sights in Beijing. You would need to use public transportation. Check out the Nova hotel Forbidden City much better located. We were on a tour last year with some people from the Swisshotel and they felt it was too far from the center. We stayed at the regent which was close to the nova hotel.

We traveled for 3 weeks in China last year with a grown daughter and stayed in a number of Marriotts, we always had 2 double or queen beds.

Is staying in the same room a must? Check the New Harbour Serviced Apartments in Shanghai, great location, you may get a 2 bedroom suite in your budget range.

Astor House Hotel can meet your request, I think. The hotel has a room type with two beds, 1.5m*2m*2beds, and also other types like family room, 1.8m*2m*1 bed, and 1.3m*2m*1 bed. The executive twin room (1.5m*2m*2beds) should be ok for your family. But it seems most of China hotels do not request to stay more of 3 adults in one room.

Thanks all for the input. I will check out the Astor House. But, I made a connection with a someone that lived in Shanghai for two years and they offered some other suggestions. I will make a trip report.

If budget is not a problem for you I would definitely recommend the "Waldorf Astoria Shanghai". I have been there and have enjoyed the royal experience of Shanghai. They will give you a warm welcome, when tourists check into the hotel.
