China, currency conversion

I have searched to try to find the consensus on this, but doesn't seem to be one.

What is the best way to change dollars into RMB. I know in Europe, use the ATM. Is this the same in China or is there no big rate difference bringing currency and exchanging on location.

Thanks for all

dave

Dave,
DO NOT bring cash to change in China. It is a total nightmare and takes forever, use your ATM card it is fast and efficient.

My bank which is Commerce bank does not charge an ATM fee neither does Capitol One in case that is a consideration.

Both along the coast and inland, we used ATMs to obtain Chinese currency. Quick, convenient, and at good rates. Forget using US $ or travelers' checks. They're a pain.

There are ATM machines all over, especially in the big cities and you should have no problem getting local currency.
Notify your bank before you leave and alert them that you will be using the card. Using the ATM machines is the most efficient and most economical way to get money.
