Chiang Mai- what to do?
Hi.
What is there to do in Chiang Mai? If we go, is 2 nights/2 days sufficient? Thanks in advance... |
Are you going anywhere else in Northern Thailand?
|
Hey Gloria.
Not at this time. We want to spend some days in Phuket and Bangkok. Thanks... |
Then I would say 2 days doesn't begin to do the trick. Northern Thailand is wonderful and deserves at least 4 or 5 days minimum, in my opinion. I love the "vibe" of Chiang Mai but I also think no trip to Thailand is complete without spending some time in the northern countryside.

Take a look at ChiangMaitours.com. Sergeant Kai is great he can customize any thing you want, e.g., airport transfers, hotels, elephant rides, Doi Suthep etc. Get a maassage in the basement of the Royal Princess hotel.

Lots to do in Chiang Mai - spas, cooking classes, good restaurants, great shopping for handcrats, celadon, silver, lacquerware & other items including, and sightseeing around Chiang Mai, including Doi Suthep, a beautiful Wat on a hilltop just outside of CM and other temples within the old city. Also there is elephant trekking at a number of elephant camps near CM. We loved the Elephant Conservation Center about an hour south of CM in Lampang. Do a search on this forum for Chiang Mai & you will find lots of information. I don't think 2 days/2 nights will be enough time, especially since there is travel time to & from CM. I think in a previous post you had quite an ambitious itinerary with a number of countries & cities. You may be trying to spread yourselves a little too thin, especially considering the distances between places you are visiting. I think if you rush from place to place you will not really have time to savor & enjoy the places you visit. we spent our entire three weeks in Thailand (Bangkok, CM & surroundings, & a southern beach) and loved it.

I liked the Snake Farm and the Hilltribe Visit..Also the cooking class we took at Chiang Mai Cookery School was awesome...The night bazaar was great as well..We stayed 6 nights and did not do all we set out to do.

2 nights/2 days is definitely not sufficient. This was the itinerary we planned in the beginning but extended another night thanks to the advice of people from this forum. 3 nights was all we could stay and still it was not enough we only had time for an elephant tour , the Doi Suthep and 1 visit to the night bazaar. 4 - 5 nights would probably have been better. There is a lot to do in Chiang Mai and it's a beauftiful place to visit. We definitely plan to go back. Have fun!

I, too, highly recommend Chiangmaitours.com. Sergeant Kai and his assistant Nui took us around Northern Thailand for a week in a nice roomy van. He tailored the trip according to our interests, and it was most reasonably priced as well. We loved every minute.
