Chiang Mai shopping mall

Can anyone tell me about the Airport Shopping Mall that is next to the airport in Chiang Mai. Is it worth checking out? What is it like? Is it big? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't been there but I have heard from several people that it's very good shopping -- good quality.

Yes, it is big and modern and quite nice. When I was there I was thinking that I wish I had more time to check it out and that I would recommend the place at fodors.com if I had the opportunity. Thanks for the opportunity!

I went there with a taxi driver on the way to the airport to buy a big roller suitcase. We walked and walked for a while past lots of nice stores to the Robinson's department store. Got a good quality bag at a good price. I think that mall would be among the best places to go for quality stuff. Air conditioned and no exhaust fumes and not jam packed.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll check it out when I'm in Chiang Mai in March.

It is well worth a visit for the “Northern Village”, good quality products at very competitive prices.

My wife took some guests there last week and they were very impessed.

Yes, it occupies two floors at one end of the building. The mall offers a lot more as well.

Hi Tangata- are you back from BKK? This Mall sounds like a place I will definitely have to visit on my next trip!

Hi Spygirl,

I'm back from India, via Bangkok. I hope to be here now until March 16th when we head to Hong Kong for the Sevens, then on the 21st I expect to fly HK - Bangkok - Bombay, probably for about six weeks.

Hi Tangata-(boy it's hard to post on here-posts keep disappearing!) when you and madam get to HKG, you should try to check out Dragon-i nightclub/restaurant on Wyndham St. in Central. The food is surprisingly good (particularly that chocolate "boon" cake-it's a chocoholic's dream!) Interesting hip scene-with VIP rooms of course!

Methinks however, your attention will be primarily focused on watching those endless cricket matches at the Club! (seems like I remember they were talking about the "sevens" when I was there....)

Ah Rugby Spyirl Rugby! For cricket you have to go to the HKCC or the KCC.

But for the weekend of the 18th of March HK is all Rugby. This year not the HK Sevens, but the World Sevens.

Getting a hotels proving difficult.

Tangata-Are you a rugby player (former?)? Many years ago, I played wing forward for the Boston Rugby Club abd the Washington Rugby Club. I played sevens as well.

GPanda,

Many years ago, normally as a lock but sometimes as a break a way or wing forward.

I of my small claims to fame is that I have been to every one of the HK Sevens.
