Try "The Good View" or "Once Upon a Time". They are both on the river and serve a variety of food, including northern Thai. "Once Upon a Time" is within walking distance of the Westin. "The Good View" is a short tuk-tuk ride from anywhere in central Chiang Mai.

The Gallery is an excellent if somewhat up market restaurant on the banks of the Ping it serves both Thai and European dishes.

The Galae serves northern food in a pleasant garden setting.

Le Grand Lanna is a new very up market restaurant serving classic Thai dishes that are somewhat toned down for the European palate. The setting is also classical Thai.

Le Coq Dor probably serves the best European food.

There are dozens of other restaurants; youll be spoilt for choice.
I'm in Chiang Mai now. Had a great lunch at the Mango Cafe yesterday. Inexpensive, but wonderful. It's close to the Hard Rock Cafe.

Also had lunch the day before at Le Grand Lanna. Very good and beautiful setting. It is near the road with the handcarft showrooms.

The Whole Earth was also good, but not as good as the Mango Cafe.

Weather has been warm. No need for sweaters/jackets in the evenings.

If you like porcini mushrooms, go to Piccola Roma.

The owner flies them in fresh from Tuscany and the pasta he can make for you is beyond compare.

He has worked for royal families and has a very colorful personality. Highly recommend.
