Chiang Mai hotels
I'm interested in hearing from Fodorites about their favorite place to stay in Chiang Mai.
I'm leaning toward the Baan Orapin, Rachamankha and Fern Paradise. We're looking for something traditional and beautiful which will give us a feel for the area and would appreciate your feedback. Thanx |
We looked at the rooms at the Rachamankha. I wouldn't stay there. Very spartan, but with mildew in the bathrooms. Yuck.
We atyed at Yaang Come Village, which was lovely. We also looked at a new place close by, I posted about it from Chiang Mai in November. Sorry, I don't have the name readily available to me. |
I stayed at the River Ping Palace on the river in November. It is a very beautiful traditional Lanna style teak wood boutique hotel. If you google for it you will find the website.
The food is amazing there and so is the owner! |
Over New Year's we stayed at the Baan Orapin. It was very nice, very traditional, excellent service. The prices were reasonable as well. We had two rooms: one was near the front and was $49/night; the other further back was $62/night.

The Rachamankha was a big disappointment to us. I hear from many posts for a high-end budget hotel Baan Orapin is a good choice.
It can be chilly in Nov. unlike Bangkok where it will be 20+F higher. |
I stayed at Baan Orapin for 10 days a year ago and it was wonderful. I would stay there again in a second.
