Chiang Mai hotel for three generations

A friend is trying to narrow down her CM hotel options. She's traveling with her mom, sister and daughter--they'll have about 48 hours in CM in mid-June:

-- ages range from 9 to 73
-- looking for 1 or 2 rooms, with a total budget/nite of about $300
-- prime considerations are location and safety
-- don't mind walking
-- not planning to spend much time at hotel
-- while in CM, they want to see Old City, night market, Doi Suthep, and find somewhere to ride an elephant

Here are the hotel choices:

-- Le Meridien
-- Rarinjinda Wellness Spa
-- D2
-- Chedi CM
-- Rati Lanna Riverside Spa

Can anyone help with input on these choices? Thanks!

You might have a problem with fitting 3 people into the regular room at the D2 as they are very small with an equally small bathroom and in an area that I find too busy to be relaxing. The Chedi is the most expensive and luxurious on your list and their club suite room and they have complimentary mini bar with lots of vodka. The Ratilanna was a Sofitel and the location is on the river and not too far from down town. If you can get a good rate then the Ratilanna might be the best for you as you'll have the river and a nice size pool as well.

Thanks to both of you--I've forwarded this thread to my friend.

If you are interested in other options, consider Baan Orrapin, a little family run place that has a large "family room" that could accommodate your relatives. I haven't stayed there, but it gets rave reviews from many. It's much less than the other places discussed above.

We stayed at Yaang Come Village, which is lovely and has large rooms which I believe could accommodate three.
