Chiang Mai hotel advice needed

Hello everyone. I need advice on booking a hotel in Chiang Mai later this month. I have seen people mention Baan Orapin and the Riverview Lodge but I am looking for something slighty less expensive than Baan Orapin and something you can book online, unlike Riverview Lodge. I don't really have time or access to a fax machine.
Also, my group is interested in doing a trek, possibly overnight. If I booked something like that from the hotel, would they refund/not charge me for the nights we won't be there? Thank you!

Anyone???

Hmm... Baan Orapin is pretty cheap. For true budget hotels you can book online, you'd best look at the Suriwongse or Pornping Tower.

Thank you, those are great. And by the way, when I said book online, I also meant being able to send a reservation request online is fine, just not one of those places where faxing is the only option. Thanks again.

I stayed at the Galare Guest House years ago,so don't know how it is now, but it's right next to Riverview Lodge and close to the Night Market. They have a website www.galare.com and it lists prices.

I have used the Montri Hotel in Chiang Mai several times. This hotel has several different priced rooms, all have A/C, hot water, TV and use of a safety box for security storage. Mostly the difference is a larger room and/or with the addition of a bathtub.

The Montri is located 2-6 Ratchadamnoen Road, directly across from the Thapae Gate. Montri is close to several good restaurants, internet shops, travel agencies for setting up tours, cooking schools and within walking distance to the night market.

There is a couple that has a studio apartment in a high rise with pool for about $85. Go to vrbo.com and look at Chang Mai, it is the only listing there I think. In my experience, vacation rental by owner (vrbo) has always been reliable. You can book online.

We found the Park Hotel to be clean, convenient to the night market, with an fine dining room. They arranged to have our laundry done overnight and at a most reasonable price.
