Chiang Mai: Alternatives to the 4 Seasons?
Hoping to stay in a really nice place but not the 4 Seasons or Mandarin Oriental. Any suggestions?
|
Chedi, Yaang Come Village, Baan Tazala?
|
A very large suite at the Sheraton!

The Sheraton is now a Holiday Inn.

I also agree with above, Chiang mai has some amazing places these days and often you can get a suite quite reasonabale.
I think you would find yourself spending a lot of time around and about so perhaps looking at something like a top room at Yaang Come gives you location, good accommodation, reasonable in price. Others are Sofitel Riverside ( was the Ratilanna ), the Rachamankha, Jirung Resort ( is you are into health Spa - it's all suites place but out of town ) http://www.phuket-luxury-hotels.com/...ry_hotels.html There's the Chedi but you could get a Suite at the Yaang Come for less than a base room at the Chedi |
Puripuin (not sure of spelling but you can check it out on tripadvisor.com gets excellent reviews. I would definitely NOT stay at any of the large commercial hotels like the sheraton. There are wonderful, unique hotels now in Chiang Mai. If you want a resort that is more on a par to the 4Seasons I would consider the Chedi. I know lots of people love the Yaang Come and it has a great location but it felt neither unique or super deluxe to me. It's a good value but it sounds like you are looking for something "very special" and I think you can do better.

I visited the Rachamankha when I was in CM, and would not stay there. The rooms were quite spartan, and the bathrooms had lots of mildew. The restaurant, however, was excellent.
Yaang Come Village was quite nice but not a super luxury place. |
Check out Puripunn...it's a new boutique hotel in Chiang Mai. Absolutely gorgeous and has been getting great reviews.

Wow, Kim, thanks for the update on the Sheraton. First it was a Westin, then Sheraton, and now Holiday Inn. I was just in CM (on a one-day jaunt from BKK) but did not pass by the hotel, or I would have noticed the change in ownership.
In any case, the suites are really lovely. Photos at my web site, at cjs collection dot com. If you select the photo gallery on the left side of the page, and then choose "Asia" as your album, you can see just how fabulous the suites are. I always stay there, when over-nighting in CM. Carol |
