Chendu: 4 Nights too Many?

Hi fellow fodorites,

I thought I'd post this separately from my longer itinerary posting and do this in groups.

I am re-working my itinerary based on reading abou the sights in Chengdu and would like to know if 4 nights/3.5 days is appropriate for this:

23 Thurs Fly to Chengdu; afternoon: Jinli street, Wuhou memorial temple, Wenshu Monastary, Du Fu cottage

24 Fri Chengdu - early a.m. to Panda Preserve; afternoon visit to Huanglongxi

25 Sat Day trip to Leshan buddha

26 Sun Chengdu: Visit Sanxing Dui Bowuguan

27 Mon Fly to Guilin/Taxi to Yangshuo

Thanks!

hi monica - my trip report for Chengdu is at www.wilhelmswords.com/rtw2004. Hope you do better with weather than I did! Chengdu is great place for food, and I would add Qingyang temple and the River Viewing Park to things to see in town.

We have been twice to Chengdu. I think your programme looks good - there is a lot to see in Chengdu and we loved Sanxingdui - its beautifully laid out. We have also been to Dujiangyan irrigation system - this is a very great engineering project, although perhaps limited in what you can see.

You don't mention Emeishan and this is also very near Chengdu.

We have also been to Huanglong (august 2 yrs ago) - it was horribly crowded and I got to see a lot of people's backs!!! So it felt that we were in a sea of people being puched along. It is interesting but its not much fun when its so crowded!

I meant pushed along ! Sorry for typo.

Thanks janev.

I read up on another town to visit: Luodai, which has a lot of history. I think we'll go there instead of Hanglongxi. I checked out flickr and looked over a bunch of photos of both towns.

No, I'm not planning to visit Emeishan.

Thanks for your comments.

Chengdu is a nice laid back town, I wouldn't say 4 days were too many. If you plan to visit Du Fu's cottage consider also having a look at the Green Ram monastery (Ching Yang Miao) which is one of the most famous Taoist temples in China. It's within walking distance from Du Fu's cottage.
