Cheapest airline from Bangkok to New Delhi

I am travelling to Thailand at the end of January for two months but would like to take a side trip to New Delhi for a couple weeks in the middle of my stay in Thailand. The main airlines charge an arm & a leg to go from Bangkok to Delhi return. Any suggestions for cheaper flights and how to source them. Thanks

i am doing the same and have been told that $400 is the usual fare and that only thai and indian fly the route...you can discount your ticket a bit by buying it from a bkk agent...

I have seen on other postings here that Air Asia and Nok Air are cheaper air lines in Thailand. I have never used either. Are they just Domestic or do you know if either of them fly to Delhi? The chaeapest I have found so far is $600.00 CAD so the $400. you suggest isn't too bad.

None of the budget carriers fly yet BKK-Delhi, it is Thai ( using 777 widebody), Air India ( usually A-310 widebody ) or Indian Airlines ( A 320 single aisle ). Thai and Indian have fixed daily times, Air India tends to be a mix of different times.

Darn!!! I was hoping for a "cheapee" ... but I guess I'll just pay through the nose and go anyway. Thanks ... saved a lot of useless research.

hello all. I FLY/ ply the route all the time! tHE main direct carriers for that route would be either Thai, Air India or Indian Airlines. these would be direct flights! Thai may be a wee bit more expensive but it is well worth it, plus they fly every day. It is not a route which is heavily discounted, and as Bob said, the price hovers about $400 plus/minus round trip..I do the route often and always opt for Thai. There are a few cheaper options, but the flights will not be direct. The alternatives can be either Sri LANKA airlines via Colomubo, or Biman airlines via Banglesdesh and even there is a routing to Delhi via Rangoon on Myanamar Airlines(forget the name of the carrier). so those can be more economical options if you were really seeking a deal. happy travels..
