Hi:
We stayed in the City Bay View Hotel on Bencoolan street.
It was clean and good value with a great breakfast, there are a lot of 'budget ' hotels around Bencoolan street and they are well worth a look.
One tip, Singapore doesn't open much until midday, so if its shops you want afternoon and evening are best.
Have fun

The hotel reservation desk at the airport is great. They will have a list of hotels and really great discounted prices (prices change daily). Once you choose one, they will call up and reserve for you. We used it twice this month traveling through Singapore.

I would go for Royal Peacock, New Otani or the New Park, all $50-65. All good hotels at decent prices.

Try the Inn Crowd. It's more of a hostel than a hotel, but the service is EXCELLENT!

Have you thought about priceline.com or priceline asia? I see from the message board at biddingfortravel.com that the 4 star Concorde and Marriott have had successful bids at $54 and $50 per night respectively? Why pay more for a 3 star when you can get such deals on a 4?
