Cheap electronics in Bangkok?
 

Where is the best place in Bangkok to find the cheapest accessories for digital cameras in Bangkok? We are looking for a Sony battery for a Mavica camera. If anyone has any info it would be appriciated. Thanks all.

It is a myth that electronics are cheaper in Asia, at least compared to the US. I know from your other posts that you live in the LA area. For people from the UK and Europe, electronics are a cheaper in Asia (plus no sales tax), but that is not the case for people from the US. I would not bother, as there are so many other interesting things to buy, at great prices. If you do decide to buy, do a LOT of research before you go so you know that you are getting a good price. Bargain hard, make sure you get an international warranty, and be careful of fakes. You can sometimes get the latest models of an item that is not yet available in the US, but it will not be cheaper than if you waited for it to come to the US.

Also, remember that you have to pay US customs duties if you bring back more than US$800 worth of goods. Quite frankly, as a young person coming back after a trip of several months to Asia (which will be evident from your passport when you come back through US immigration), you will be a prime target for customs, so declare everything (been there, been searched).

A friend saved about $50 on a Cannon camera and about $30-35 on some of those little mp3's. Go to Pantip and drool.

Apart from Pantip try MBK mall. Quite a few good camera shop there.

just get it online or back in the states... bkk's NOT the place too get electronics... since I've been here for so long I have too buy electronics and find myslelf cursing out loud at how much more I just payed then if I where back in the states and bought it online..

i went to pantip this past april, looking for an mp3 player. i saw the ipods, and the prices were about the same as the states. no bargins here. be concerned about the follow on service, and warranty, whatever you buy.
