Chatuchak Weekend Market Info

Hi there,
I heard that the market is also open during the week. We are just booking our tickets to return to SE asia this summer and I would love to give it another visit. In order to plan I need the hours of this market. Is it Friday, Sat, and Sunday? I'm hoping someone with more experience or possibly local will be able to help me out!

It's my understanding that Friday is wholesale day (so you may find some stalls open, but probably not all of them), and everything is open on Saturday and Sunday. I wouldn't go during the week, as only a few stalls might be open. Hours may be 7 or 8 - 6, but many stalls don't open that early.

The previous post is correct. There's a few places open on Friday, but most of the market is only open Saturday and Sunday.

What you may have heard is that there is now an enclosed 'mall' at the market, which IS open every day of the week. However, I don't think the mall is worth a trip in itself. It's mainly a good place to escape the heat - there are several restaurants for meals and drinks.

The Mo Chit sky train stop Sat or Sun. Watch out for pickpockets in the crowds.

Having gone twice though there are 10-15% of vendors are there at 8 AM the majority are open at 9:45-10 AM. It is on Sat. and Sun. It is so hot and hot most days that 3 hours is max you can really take. Take a cab back to to your hotel for $3-$4.
Keep in mind if it is a $10USD purchase or more you should not pay more than 35-40% of asking price. At about $25 pay only 1/3 of asking price and $50 maybe 25-28%.

Shipping costs of big pieces are very expensive and could end up costing much more than the item from a shipping company.

It's better to take the subway rather than the Skytrain, as the Kampangphet subway stop is right under the market. It saves you the short walk from the SKytrain station to the market.
