Will arrive in Delhi eary Saturday morning-March 26th-where is the best place to exchange money for the most favorable exchange rate?--airport, hotel, bank, currency exchange?-Thanking you in advance!

The hotel rates will be the worst. An exchange window at the airport is fine.

I just used ATMs when I was in India. If you have an ATM card that doesn't charge you an arm and a leg to use a foreign machine and doesn't pile on a big exchange premium, the ATM is the quickest, easiest and best exchange rate way to go.

i too use atm's... i would not carry cash with me in most any country... you are just asking for trouble..

The airport is fine, either the exchange counters or the ATM. One thing about ATMs in India though is that they are very unreliable. Often bank machines will reject your card for no reason, but will accept it 5 minutes later. I found the Citi Bank ATMs were most reliable for my card, my daughter's worked most often at a different bank. The good news is that there are ATMs everywhere. Often they look like a bank, with a big sign and a guard outside, but it will be just a little room with an ATM!

ATM machines are usually located just past baggage claim in the airport.

Thank you for your replies-I take a debit card/ a credit card(put travel alerts on both cards) and also some cash-When I was in Turkey last year a gentleman that was on my trip failed to take some cash-his debit card didn't work altho he said he notified his bank before he left-it took several days before he could straighten it out with his bank-So I think it's a good idea to take a bit of cash just in case.

I'm with you, chi town. I always take a few US$100 bills along "just in case." Sometimes ATM machines aren't working or are out of money (rare, but it happens) and I want to make sure I have some money.
