Jaipur, India
We are still finalizing the details for our trip to India in February. How many nights do you recommend for Jaipur: 3, 4, or 5 nights? Is there enough to do there for 5 nights?
Presently, we are planning the following: Delhi (3 nts.), Varanasi (2 nts.), Agra (2 nts.), Jaipur (3 nts.)? , and Samode (1 nt.).
Also, how many hours is the drive from Jodpur to Jaipur?
Thank you so much for your advice.

I may be in the minority here, but I was very underwhelmed by Jaipur, which I found rather unappealing. I'd actually limit the say there to 2 nights and shift a bit of time elsewhere. Now I found Khajuraho to be fascinating and am glad we made the trip there, but I know a lot of people haven't been as impressed as I was.

I am not a big fan of Jaipur either. I highly recommend Udaipur versus Jaipur, if you can fit it in. Flying from Delhi is the best way to get there - 4 nights would be perfect. If you do Jodhpur, it is drivable from Udaipur. You could cut one night in Udaipur and do sites along the way that you would normally do on a day trip from Udaipur.

As I read the OP I was starting to formulate a "more Udaipur, less Jaipur" response. Alas, so was everyone else.
Doug's "underwhelming" is spot on for me, too. The Wind Palace is fun to see, and burns 15 minutes. The fort was better as it was participatory, but still the magic of Udaipur trumps.

I also agree with the suggestion to add Udaipur. Jaipur is a large city, and has a much more urban feel. Udaipur is lovely city, much smaller, and will give you a chance to feel the place a little.
I would also stay in Agra for one night, not two -- the Taj Mahal and the Agra fort can be done easily in one day, and you can then more easily carve out Udaipur.
Honestly, it's the "places in-between" that especially give a flavor of India, not the forts and palaces and major sites. They're worth going to, but they're not the essence of India that makes it so special.

Ya, in 3 Nights you can enjoy all of the amazing places of Jaipur. In between Jodhpur to Jaipur there is a 7 hours run. Jodhpur is amazing city of Rajasthan. You will enjoy all of the cultures in Jodhpur.

hi,
JAIPUR is a nice place to spent your time.It is also known as PINKCITY since almost whole city is painted in PINK.
In jaipur you can view
1.Amber palace with elephant ride.
2.water palace
3.wind palace
4.city palace
5.monkey temple
6.birla mandir
7.jantar mantar
these are some best places over here and some more places is also present near jaipur like ABHANERI ETC
& if you want experiance wild safari you can plan to go RANTHAMBHOR ,here you can see TIGERS.
jaipur to ranthombhor journey is of 3.5 hours (its a must watchable place)
IN JAIPUR YOU CAN DO SHOPING ALSO BECAUSE IT HAS WORLD FAMOUS MANUFACTURING PRODUCTS LIKE BLUE POTERY ,HANDICRFTS ETC WITH BEST PRICE.
you can go pushkar and ajmer also jouney time 3 hours from jaipur and its on the way to jodhpur.
so for jaipur i will suggest you 4 day if u want to go ranthambhor also but if you want to go jodhpur also then 2 days for jaipur and 2 days for pushkar ajmer jodhpur.
now coming to udaipur: if you want to add Udaipur instead of jaipur then also it is good for you because both places are differnt.
UDAIPUR is more romantic place but jaipur has more heritage places.
udaipur is also known as lake city and its a peaceful city.

Thank you all very much for your input. At present, we plan to stay 5 nights in Jaipur (ITC Rajputana). Starwood has a stay 4 nights, get the 5th night free offer, too good to pass up.

Unbelievable. Almost unanimous response for either limiting your time in Jaipur or to do Udaipur instead. Yet you want to spend 5 days? How did you arrive at this? Are you planning to return to India?

I haven't been to Udaipur, so can't weigh in on the comparison. However, if you're spending five nights in Jaipur, take a look at visiting the painted havelis in the Shekhawati region to the north.

I actually liked Jaipur, but wouldn't spend more than two days. We went to a Bollywood movie while there. I would not add extra days to a location just because it gives you a free nights hotel. When i was in india, the taj group had a 3 day stay, with the third nite free.

5 nights in Jaipur is too much. 2 or 3 nights is enough. But you have a good hotel over their. ITC is a good brand, so you can have some day trips from Jaipur, like to SAmode, or Ajmer-Pushkar etc.
Cheers!!
