Cannot believe no recommendations are Guide-Kula Lampur

With all the guided in Thailand why can't anyone recommend a quality guide/driver at a reasonable price for 2 one day trips outside the city of Kaula Lumpur? I would pay $75-$80 US/day.
Help!! Name and contact, please.Thanks.

Stan, I have never set up a driver or guide in advance in all the travel I've done. I know many others on this site like to have driver or guide recommendations. I find I can always find an excellent driver or guide by asking at my hotel. I've never used either a driver or a guide in KL, I've simply taken taxis wherever I want to go.

kathie is right about K/L (and everything else)...k/l does not have all that much to see....you can easily do it with a taxi and a guidebook...

I am not talking about KL proper where I will use monorail on one day in City. But to go to Cameron Highlands, Caves, and/or the National Park, some 2 hours out of the city I do not want to drive. But, I rather use someone who others have recommended like RATT in Bangkok.
Still looking for input.Thanks.

You just need to flag down a passing taxi and work out a price with him for what you want.

But please get real and do not talk in terms of $80 a day - that is crazy and makes it more expensive for us non-Americans in the long term.

A rate based on $7 an hour for driving time and $2 an hour for waiting time is plenty. Say $30 for the day.

I was in Bali recently, which is admittedly cheaper than Malaysia, and had a car drive us out to a volcano and wait while we climbed it (four hours). Drive time out and back was two hours, and we gave the guy =$US16, and he was happy as all get out.

You might try Judy Phoon. She does a lot of tours for expatriates living in K.L. Mobile number: country code 6 + 016-210-0319. Or Stevie at Cuti-cuti Travel. 6 + 012-638-8382. I would think any local travel agency in Kuala Lumpur could arrange that for you. My friend had visitors in town recently and her K.L. travel agent arranged a full day city tour for her group of 3 ladies for about RM27 each -- just a few dollars per person. If you taxi it on your own, check out that the driver has workable English first.

Diane; Thanks for the info. Does Cuti-Cuti have an email or web site.
I am down to $35-$40 for a 10 hour day if it is a private in car with A/C and a car good condition.
I would welcome 1 or 2 more solid recommendations from folks that want to rave!!

I know I now have phone numbers of 2 possible guides for 1 day trips outside of Kuala Lumpur. But an email address or website would be helpful so I can arrange dates from the US a month before we leave. At Cuti-Cuti Travel or from Judy was there a special knowlegeable guide who really knew the terrain and cultural villages outside KL and was fluent in English? Thanks!
