Can you recommend a India travel agent?

Does anyone have a good travel agent they can recommend that are located in India? I would like to book some internal flights and usually you can get better prices on flights (and hotels) by local travel agents. Thanks

I don't know about internal flights but you can definitely get better prices on hotels by dealing with a local agent. We used Compass Tours. Others will chime in. There are several that are reputable that are frequently recommended on this board. I suggest you e-mail 3 agencies with your requirements and ask for pricing.

I worked with 3 other agents before deciding on him. Not only was he the least expensive but the most prompt and efficent.

bonita who is often on this board spends most of her life in india....she is a new yorker by birth and at the moment is visiting there but will be back to india next month i understand....

why not ask her to help you....did't i see that you already had some exchanges with her on another thread...??

on hotel prices: my recent experience with india over the last year was that agents can get you some good price and some not so good prices, but also some websites also offer good prices from time to time....for instance i have a 4 nite stay (november 06) in a club floor room at the sheraton in jaipur for $100 per nite for two people including tax....this was a res made on the starwoods site based on an aarp membership (seniors)...

I, too, can recommend Bonita. She led my tour group on a great 'Golden Triangle' tour two years ago and I've been working with her to arrange a customized tour for me of South India. She really knows her stuff, has good local contacts and really loves India - so tries to do her best to make the experience 'special' for you too. I contact her at: [email protected]

I am currently working with Shweta Seth of Compass on a November trip on the basis of recommendations on here. So far, the response, prices quoted, etc., have been excellent.

We took an independent tour using Ashoka Holidays. They were great!1 Very attentive and the prices were right. They have several offices throughout India.

I've been working with a tour company recommended by many people on this forum, but I think the car transportation they quote me is too much. It works out to be around $100 a day, even though I have only 1 day of inter-city drive --from Jaipur to Agra. The other days the car presumably is mainly used for picking up/dropping off at airport/train station and/or sightseeing within the same city. I think this is a ripoff.

I'm trying to ask them to itemize the price. Let's see if they'll do it.

What's the best strategy for doing car rental? Should I just book a car for long distance travel and book a car from the hotel for local sightseeing when I get there?

Thanks.

I have just returned from a 14 day north India trip (Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Khajuraho, Varanasi). The land portion was superbly organized by Compass India Inc and I couldn't have been more pleased with their services and prices. We selected all 4-star hotels of Raj-class and had a wonderful experience. All domestic travel (SUV, plane and train), as organized by Compass India, was also flawless, with a local resident meeting us at the airports and stations, escorting us to hotels and even registering us there. By the way, we flew to India on a direct 16-hour flight from Chicago to Delhi (American Airlines), which was reasonable in price and hassle-free, although it did arrive close to midnight.

My husband and I just returned from the Rajasthan area 5 wks ago. It is wonderful! We used The Heritage, rajasthanvacations.com or vacationstoindia.com (the same company) It is family owned and we have no complaints. The owner, Anil, met us in Delhi at 1:00 am with a driver to take us to the hotel. He arranged for a hotels, cellphone, driver, car, local guides for the different cities, flights between some locations and called to check on our status every few days. The last day we had a car/driver at our disposal until flight time. We had reseached and told him where we wanted to go and he compiled the itinerary. He has package itineraries as well.

Highly recommend VP Singh at Legendsandpalaces.com. He is a wonderful guide and a true gentleman. Also can arrange hotels, etc. at extremely reasonable rates. He is certainly comnpetitive with all of the other agents.

You'll want to contact Yangdu or Motup at Rimo Expeditions. Excellent company I can highly recommend.

Take care,
