Can you recommend a hotel in Bangkok?

* $75 or less for a double
* near the Grand Palace or along the river
* 3 nights in Jan/Feb

We've never been there before so I'm hoping someone can give suggestions. Since we'll only be there 3 nights, I'd like to stay somewhere that would be close to some of the cooler sites. I'm thinking a room with a balcony and view of the river would be nice. Any ideas? Thanks!

Circleofasia.com & asiahotels.com have a lot of good information including comments by travelers.

Will be staying at the Royal River on the river as we did last year. Less than 50.00 a night with breakfast. Balcony on the river. Got through Northwest airlines deal when flying,but sure on the internet as suggested you can do as well. Very helpful staff and most enjoyable for the price.

There are two hotels on the way to the Grand Palace, however, neither is not on the river banks. The older Royal Hotel is within walking distance to the palace, and Royal Princess Hotel on Larn Luang Road, newer and more expensive, but should be within your limit.
As Mary has just mentioned, Royal River is also a nice one and along the river, and you can catch an express boat to the pier for the palace, and you could see the sunrise in bkk as well.

I also stayed at Royal River and liked it.I booked through a discount agent---$23 including breakfast--good room but no water view or balcony. Noticed that Royal River can be booked through circleofasia.com. Found that generally cheaper to book in advance than show up.
