Can we bring one bottle of wine into HK?

If I can figure our how to pack the wine in my suitcase, we would like to bring a bottle of wine as a gift to a friend in HK. Is this allowed by customs. I cannot seem to find an answer on the internet Thanks, Zin

For one bottle of wine, absolutely.

You can't bring more than 1 liter of hard liquor, however:

If there are two of you and you're following the law to the letter then you can bring 3 normal size bottles at 750ml each. I normally wrap the wine with at least 2 layer of plastic shopping bags around each bottle of wine and pack them mid way down with my clothes in a hard shell luggage. I've never had a broken bottle but I've had wines leaking out of the bottle through the cork but the plastic bags keep the spill in check.

Actually, I think there's no limit to how much wine you take. The limitation is on liquor only.

Hong Kong removed duty for imported wine and beer last year.

Rkkwan,

Thanks for the information on the abolition of the import duties and tax for wine, I didn't know about that! Great news and are the prices in the wine shops in Hong Kong reflecting the 0 duty and tax?

Thanks all for your help. It seems unanimous! Let's drink!!!

Yes, wine prices here in Hong Kong absolutely reflect the eliminiation of the import duty on wine (and beer too). And there are more wine shops open than before as well. You may want to bring a different gift that isn't so breakable.

Hanuman - Yes, that's correct.

In early 2008, the HK Government was flushed with money, so they removed duty on wine and beer import. They also tried to get Hong Kong into a high-end wine trade center with the zero duty, and some auctions were indeed held.

Yeah there's no limit on wine but I'm not so sure why would anyone bring more than a couple of bottles as wine is cheap in HK too.

krishnax,

Your analogy is only true for cheap or inexpensive wine. A bottle of Le Pin vintage 2000 cost $2,956.73 per bottle in France while in Hong Kong the same wine cost $3,909.57 per bottle. Bring one bottle you save $952.84 bring two you save $1,905.68 etc....
