camera batteries
I would like to know how strict the domestic airlines in India (Jet Airways, Kingfisher, etc.) are concerning taking camera batteries on board with the cameras. Apparently you cannot take the batteries with you with your carry ons but must check them with your check in baggage? Would hate to put these batteries with check in baggage for fear of losing them.
Would appreciate knowing what has been the experience with travelers using these airlines and how strict are these domestic airlines in enforcing these rules. Thanks |
The rule is that you cannot put lithium batteries in your checked luggage and should take all of them as carryon, and there's no limit how many you can take.

Thanks, Ray!

In Jaisalmer we had to turn over all of our batteries in equipment and carry on. They gave them back to us when we reached our destination. Other than that no one cared.

rkkwan,
I think the rule is the reverse. Namely, that you cannot take your camera batteries with you but MUST place them in with you check-in luggage. Just called both Jet Airways and Kingfisher and they were pretty clear about that. My question is however, how often do they enforce these rules in "practical" terms. I think Marija's experience may be what is done in most cases. Thanks |
We took seven or so flights within India and only once did anyone care about batteries. Jaisalmer is a military installation so they were hyper about everything.

Thanks Marija. That is what I thought was the case on most of those domestic flights.

In that case, those Indians are funny. Apparently, they don't care about Li-ion batteries in the baggage hold igniting and burning up the plane.

Here is what the US DOT says:
http://phmsa.dot.gov/portal/site/PHM...gnextfmt=print "Batteries not installed in electronic devices are not permitted in checked baggage". |
