Bus Suvanabhumi airport for 7 hours break
Hi guys!
I arrive to Suvanabhumi Airport at 7.00 (am) and fly out about 17.00 and i was thinking to get out of the airport for a few hours, perhaps Banglampu area or else, by public transport. would you advise that in terms of time limit - traffic? what bus can i use? many thanks Nikos |
You certainly have time to go into the city. I don't know the bus system. There will soon be a train connection, but not until later this year. Taxis into the city will be about 300 baht. Just have them use the meter. What is it you want to do/see/experience during your hours in Bangkok? Have you been to Bangkok before?

Why the bus and not a taxi when it's so easy to get a taxi? HAppy Travels!

one thought...i think if you leave the airport you will be subject to the exit tax if you are arriving from outside thailand....but if you are arriving from within thailand it will not be an issue...
what would you want to do....i think i would consider hiring a taxi for about 300B per hour to take me around bkk... or i would take a taxi to someplace like siam paragon and spend my time shopping a bit, having a nice lunch.. or i would take the taxi to the jim thompson house....do the tour, have a nice lunch there....walk over to MBK or the siam square area and walk around and then return to the airport by ~2PM.... |
Thanks for the ideas!
Well, i've been in Bkk in the past and this time i would like just to spend time walking somewhere nice, have lunch etc. But what is new and worries me is about the exit tax. What is it really? I'll be flying from Greece. |
You are flying from Greece to where via Bangkok? If you are flying to somewhere else in Thailand, your tax will be in your ticket. If you are flying though Bangkok to another country, then you would have to pay the tax.

The tax is 700 Baht, and it applies if you go through immigration when you're not supposed to, it has nothing to do with leaving the airport. If you have a single through ticket, with baggage checked through, then if you got through immigration in Bangkok, you'll have to pay the fee when you go back through immigration to depart (it doesn't matter if you leave the airport or not).
There are a couple of airport bus lines. They leave from the 1st level of the main terminal - that's one level down from arrivals. Time-wise it would be better to take the route that goes to the Sukhumvit area, then use the Skytrain (and boat) to get elsewhere. |
that's great, thanks guys
