Burma River Cruise

I am travelling with a friend to Burma Sept/Oct and my travelling companion wants to see see Burma via a river cruise.
I've started doing some research as this is not quite what I had in mind, so wondering if anyone has some advice to offer to help us make the decisions.

Does she really want a full-on cruise or just a trip down the river?

If the latter, my trip report may help: http://loraltravel.blogspot.com.au/2...-mandalay.html

I'm afraid I can't help with the expensive version.

Cheers, Alan

The two major cruise lines in Burma are Pandaw and Orient Express (their boat is called the Road to Mandalay). Some people love these cruises, there are a number of good reports here. While I think a cruise would be very nice, I wouldn't consider it a substitute for time with your feet on the ground. Burma has much to see/do/experience and only a small part of it is along the Irrawaddy. It's not like Egypt, where most of the population lives on the narrow flood plain.

Kathie thanks....this is also my opinion. Have just discovered this forum and loving reading everyone's responses about their travel experiences!
Alan, thanks for your trip report, will take the time to look at also.
