Burma and TB ??
 

Anyone getting vaccinated for TB for Burma - nothing on it on the CDC site but....????

The TB vaccine is not very effective. I know it is given in Europe, but it is not used in the US. TB is actually very hard to contract. It takes very close and prolonged proximity to someone with active TB (unless one has an impaired immune system). So, no, the TB vaccine is not recommended, even if you could find it.

Thanks again Kathie - you are so generous with your replies. They may both have had the BCG as infants as they were born in Ireland. I forgot, in the other thread, to answer your question about when the girls are leaving for Burma - they are going on Thursday but are now fairly on top of things thanks to micro-managing mama and her distance parenting! Don't worry. I was born in the UK & vaccinated as a babe but I don't know how much I trust it. The only time I have been worried about TB was in India when a rickshaw dirver collapsed in the street coughing up blood & we learnt the next day he had died. We were in Burma in Nov & I never had a thought about TB. As Kathie says it takes close prolonged contact. Your a good Mum!
