Bund Access?
I just read that access to the Bund in Shanghai is restricted because of construction projects for next years World Expo in Shanghai. Is this true? If so, does anyone have recommendations on how to see/walk the Bund? We will be soon staying at the Astor in Shanghai. Also does anyone have a recommendation for American style restaurants near the Astor?

A walk on the Bund promenade is to see the skylines on both side of Huangpu river.
If the entire Bund walkway is not accessible due to construction. People could still see the breathtaking skylines on Huangpu by taking ferry rides. There are 2 passenger ferries commuting between the bund area and Pudong at the Jinling Dong Lu pier & Dong Men Lu pier. Jinling Dong Lu pier could be closed as part of the bund construction. Take the ferry at Dong Men Lu pier locates on the Zhong Shan Dong Er Lu & Dong Men Lu. The dock is not far Dong Chang Lu subway station. The ferry runs every 20-30 minutes, fare 2 rmb for ac & 0.5 rmb for non ac. M on the Bund on Guangdong Lu & Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu would be the closest American style restaurant to Astor I can think of. |
There are construction walls around the walkway so limited viewing.
Another vote for the ferry. We took the night ferry and were given gorgeous views of the building all lit up in many colors. It really was the best way to see the architectural wonders along the river. Getting a taxi afterwards was difficult but worth seeing the Bund all aglow. |
Thank you Cat12345 and Beachgirl247!

Just returned from Shanghai and the Bund is unaccessable. I took the ferry with the locals. A great experience and great views of the neon lit World Financial Center and other buildings. I then walked a bit to the Riverside Prominade. Had a very nice dinner at a resturant, sorry the name escapes me now, but it was at the very end of the Riverside Prominade. I had a roasted vegetales with brie cheese dish, not Chinese food. Outside and inside seating.
I took the subway back to my hotel, I stayed in the French Concession. Safe travels...Max |
