Bringing R's into India

A friend of ours who recently returned from India and was planning on returning in about 6 months has had his plans change and has offered to sell us approx. $250 of R's to take with us on an upcoming trip there. It seems to me that I saw somethng about not being able to take R's into India.....does anyone know about this..want to resolve before purchasing them.
Thanks,
Bob

The usual rule, when there is one, is you can't take currency out of a country. In a number of trips to India no one has ever asked if I had any currency on entering the country. The usual concerns are about large sums, as in illegal activities. No one cares about $250.

Technically it is officially illegal and currency smuggling to bring in rupees. However odds are no one will question
small amounts.Airport security can be pretty tough and they do go through everything and two or three times at that and a big wad of bills may set off an alarm.

ATMS at the airport flor best FOREX rate

found on coinmill.com my Visa capitalone.com Venture

works well there plus I get double FF miles.
