Boston 2008 GTG

the guys from hawaii have been asking about potential dates for our october, 2008 GTG......the 11th and the 18th have been suggested.....the 13th is a holiday in boston and has been our traditional date for the GTG, but we are perfectly willing to change to the later date if it means that more folks can join us....???

what do you think??

one sad note: the hotel @ MIT is being converted to a Le Meredien and will have significant alterations on its first floor including our usual meeting room....so this means that we may have to seek out another location....

andy is talking to the thai restaurant Similan, where we have had our dinners on saturday nites in the past, as one alternative....there are hotels nearby: marriott, residence inn, sonesta, liberty (new lux hotel in the old charles street jail), holiday inn, hampton inn, plus all the boston hotels....

one less expensive find is the john jeffries house owned by mass general hospital----you need to book way in advance...its an old federal style building at the base of beacon hill and directly across from the charles street T stop....nothing fancy but reasonable and comfortable...

let me know what you desire....

bob (and his nibs andy)

Simply put (for Bob), the first step is to arrange the date. Please advise whether you prefer October 11 or October 18. If neither fits, chime in early and often. Thanks.

Either date will work for us. Thanks as always for doing this.

I'm going to try to make it this year. The 11th is probably better but at the moment either works.

I have yet to make it to a Boston gtg. We'd love to come, but our travel plans (even for Asia) are very up in the air for 2008. If we were able to come, it would be best for us to have it on the holiday weekend.

One of these years, we'll make it to a Boston gtg!

We would love to attend in 2008. Linda has a dance recital in Chicago on the 24th thru the 28 so if held on the 18th or thereabouts we would love to attend.

Aloha!

Hi Bob,

Iris and I hope to be able to join you all in 2008.

October 11 would be preferable for us.

Either works for me. As the Pander-ing one has mentioned, the Head of the Charles is the 18/19th, which could well make hotel rooms more difficult to find on that weekend.

If the GTG is at SimilanPoppaGoose or whatever it's called, add the Hotel Marlowe to Bob's list.

I'm sure the Prince is keeping a running tally. Please give us your preference. Once the date is set, Bob will be his normal inflexible self. One cannot change, what one does not have.

Bob,
I was thinking to myself that maybe later in the month would be good, since so many things are going on the other weekends. The 25th works for me. Let's see what others have to say.

A cautionary note. The later in October, the higher the likelihood of really terrible weather. Of course, New England weather is not really subject to rational analysis, e.g., Bob is a local.

its looking likely that we will host the boston GTG on oct 11...just waiting for the hotel to get back to me...

btw, le meredien has informed me that there will not be any changes to the hotel before 2009....that is good news for us....my same contact is still there and i am awaiting her response to the 11th date....she had previously told me it was available but that the 18th was not...

put it in pencil on your calendars....

we need to start a collection to pay for filmwill's airfare otherwise he will not be able to do the HI GTG and another trip to asia....there's a writers strike you know and all those tinseltown people are in poverty...

OK...WE ARE ALL SET--- THE BOSTON GTG 2008 WILL BE AT LE MEREDIEN HOTEL, 20 SIDNEY ST, CAMBRIDGE, MA ON OCTOBER 11, 2008 AT 11AM.....

SEND RESERVATIONS TO ME AT [email protected]

andy will plan a dinner at similan thai restaurant for the evening---first street, cambridge....

hope to see you all there again

hotel prices have turned to really outrageous in the boston area so book early...

one less expensive place is the john jeffries house at the base of beacon hill, but you must book now...not fancy but adequate..

last year many stayed at the summerfields suites in burlington using the seniors rate for about $100.
