BOS GTG 2012

Thanks, Bob and Karen, for hosting such a great party last night. It was a delightful evening! Always nice to see old friends; and how lovely to meet newbies who have opted to join us for the BOS GTG 2012. I hope today is just as lovely as last night was. Great company, awesome food, and tasty wine. And happy birthday to Lucy! You looked lovely, dear friend, even if you had come all the way from Cambodia the day before!

The weekend is off to a great start. The weather looks cooperative for today. Looking forward to another great luncheon!

I'm envious. Have a great time. I hope someone will post pictures and identify the players! We leave for china on Monday. Looking forward to a much smaller gtg in shanghai.

I second everything simpsonc said. It was indeed a lovely evening and I look forward to today. Definitely off to a great start!

Hanuman Oct 6th, 2012 05:11 AM

I am jealous and Bob never invite us to his house!

ms_go Oct 6th, 2012 05:28 AM

Yes! Big thank you to Bob and Karen for the lovely dinner and gathering last night. We enjoyed meeting everyone and are looking forward to lunch in a couple of hours.

Shanghainese Oct 6th, 2012 06:58 AM

What a lovely party, and enjoy the weekend GTG activities too!

taconictraveler Oct 6th, 2012 03:27 PM

We just arrived home from part of the BOS GTG 2012, our first one ever!

What an awesome group of travelers, so knowledgeable and so welcoming.

We loved the dinner last evening, (thanks again Bob and Karen) and the lunch today.

So sorry we're missing dinner this evening in Boston.

And for all of you who couldn't make it this year, I say you had better come next year. There could be a camel in your future!

taconictraveler Oct 6th, 2012 03:30 PM

Forgot to say thanks to everyone, especially Simpsonc for going all the way to Bangkok to get gifts for us all.

It is wonderful to put faces to the names, looks like we will become GTG junkies!

simpsonc510 Oct 6th, 2012 07:06 PM

Taconic, so nice to meet face to face!! I do hope that the BoS GTG will be on next year's calendar. Camel in your future... hmmmmm ... I'll bet I have a clue. lol

Dinner at Similans was a very lovely ending to the weekend. That restaurant has become the standard Saturday night location, and for good reasons. The food. The service. The setting. We get to put our large group back in the back, where we can be (mostly) loud and jovial as we talk travel. There were some entertaining stories once again!

Farewell breakfast in the morning, and then a parting of the ways, until NEXT year. I already look forward to returning.

Carol

It sounds as though the weekend has gone extremely well. We hope to participate next year, but meanwhile are enjoying hearing reports on this latest Boston G2G.

Nikki Oct 7th, 2012 02:44 AM

Lots of fun and interesting conversation. You'd think that with three events over two days there would have been enough time to talk to everyone one wanted to, and to say everything that one wanted to say. But you'd be wrong.

What a great weekend we had! Thank you Bob and Karen for a fabulous dinner on Friday night and for organizing all the events. It was so nice to finally meet so many Fodorites in person. I too am already looking forward to next year! I agree with you Nikki - not enough time and too many interesting people! :)

Well we just had our own Mini GTG in London, Pook, Muffin Dang, Pooks mom and sister and I. We thought of you guys......

kmkrnn Oct 7th, 2012 12:19 PM

We just put Lucy and Nanabee on the plane for home. It was a great weekend. Thank you to all for coming. Thank you, also to Fodors for the books and buttons. They were a great hit as usual and people soon found out that the randon number on their name tag meant you won a guide book. Food was great at all venues, even if I may say so my self.

We enjoyed all the newbees and their stories. It is never long enough to ask all the questions or talk to every one. Even at breakfast this morning we were still talking. Oh well, there is always next year. Thanks all.

rhkkmk Oct 7th, 2012 02:50 PM

i'd have to add that this was one of our best GTG's, if not the best.... but who is going to eat all the tiramisu left in our fridge...?? ok, ok, i'll do it..

what was so great??? well for one thing, the fabulous newbies we got to meet. they are all, without exception, very interesting, fun and enthustatic people. they added a whole new level to our weekend's enjoyment.

each of our venues exceeded my expectations, which is always a worry.

thank you again to lcuy for bringing the little decorative sachels of cambodian pepper for karen and I to place at everyone's place on saturday. and, also for carol's lovely blue and pink bags of bkk goodies. and also for the goodies (pins and books) from Fodors... and thanks too to easytraveller for the case of wine which she shipped to us, most of which was seen to disappear on Friday night. OH DID I MENTION THAT THIS GROUP CAN PUT AWAY WINE!!!

Lastly, thanks to all of you who participated and as karen and i prepare to leave for asia next week, we carry with us the hope that in 51 weeks we can meet again with ALL of you again and with a few other newbies...

now it's on to Shanghai and our next GTG there on Oct. 29

simpsonc510 Oct 7th, 2012 03:05 PM

The weekend was fabulous. Yes, K, the food was exceptional, and your dinner on Friday night was delicious!!!

Now I'm up north (N Conway NH that is) where there is some nice color in the leaves, and outlet shopping galore. I'm happy!!! Should be a nice couple of days.

I just want to say how much I enjoyed meeting the newbies. They added a lot to the gatherings. Hopefully they will return next year, and we'll get MORE newbies to join us. This BOS GTG group is a fine bunch of extremely interesting folks!!!

Craig Oct 7th, 2012 03:22 PM

This event for Jeane and I was also one of our best GTG's ever. Perhaps it was the one-year hiatus that had made us hungry for more but it was just great to see old friends again. We were also impressed that we had "newbies" that came from afar (Miami Beach, San Diego, Chicago, etc.) to attend this event. We are already looking forward to next year!

Nywoman Oct 7th, 2012 04:58 PM

As a "Newbie" it was extraordinary to have already made such great friends.

I don't think that there are words enough, at least not in my vocabulary, to express the gratitude for how much Karen and Bob put into making this the the success it was. Of course they didn't work in a vacuum. Carol the inveterate shopper made sure to make me a happy attendee.

It was such a lovely perfect weekend with great food not the least that was made by Karen. I am looking forward to the next, whether a meal at Karen's or GTG?

A HUGE thank you to my perfect hostess. You can all eat your hearts out, am not divulging the identity. We should all be so lucky to start the day in a hot tub.

Happy travels everybody, I leave for Australia 10/20

I second everyone's wonderful praises of the Boston GTG. Bob and Karen, what would we do without you? Your organizing and caring for everyone is simply wonderful and beyond words. Carol, thank you fo much for the beautiful gift bags--So charming and such fun to dig through. I altready am using the spoon on my sugar bowl and the little candles are simply too cute!

I enjoyed everyone's funny and engaging travel stories, and look forward to Craig and Jeane's report from Bhutan as well as Bob and Karen's from China.

Now, for me.....off to Istanbul!

taconictraveler Oct 7th, 2012 06:25 PM

I feel as though I made a whole group of new friends at this GTG, all addicted to travel as I am. It gave me a lot more "cred". With Jim, lol!

I'll be watching for travel reports from all these upcoming trips?

Younare all really awesome in person, and Karen and Bob couldn't be better, more welcoming hosts.

Happy Travels to all.
