Borobudur late Feb - Bad idea?
 

We are thinking of going to Singapore late Feb 2016 and as it's a special anniversary we are considering treating ourselves to 3 days at the Aman in Borobudur (a hotel and place we are both keen to go to) given that it's hideously expensive should I be concerned that it's peak rainy season, is it likely to put a "dampener" on things? I am not overly concerned about a little rain (I went to Myanmar in the rainy season and it was fine) but based on previous years is this likely to be a wash out or still an ok time to travel?

Tropical rains are almost always downpours, followed by hours of no rain. I happen to love the ambiance of a good rainy season shower, especially at such a place. I'm not generally a big fan of similar places but Borobudur is great! I encourage you to do it.

I just looked at the weather averages, and yes, it does rain a lot in February - an average of 13 inches. We were there in Nov, when it "only" gets 9 inches. We had one day where it poured and we had to wade across the street to get to the car... the water was about 6 inches deep in the street. Really, it didn't keep us from doing what we wanted, and some of the photos with the storm clouds are dramatic. I was there in Dec 20 years ago, when it gets an average of 13.5 inches, and it was fine. The usual intense showers, then sun. Like Mme Perdu, I wouldn't let that stop me.

The Amanjiwo is beyond fabulous but we were there during July and had no rain.

Yes I see what Marmot thinks also, we'll see if we go, it's just a plan at the minute and as I said a special anniversary and at least we can save £££££ by staying with K when we are in Singapore��. This is hopefully going to be a "bonus" SE Asia trip in 2016....

Hard to predict what will happen weather-wise over 3 days in February. Most likely you'll have sunny mornings with heavy rain starting late afternoon and continuing overnight, but sometimes you'll get a few days of off and on rain or a few days of sun.

Temples are a tough go during a down pour and you may not get the sunrise or sunset; however the country side will be lush and green (though meteorologists are predicting drought for 2015/16).

The Amanjiwo is wonderful in any weather. They often have dances or other cultural programs, mountain and rice paddy walks, bike rides, cooking classes, yoga sessions plus all of the spa and wellness options.

Bear in mind that all activities are ala carte with 21% tax. The Amans don't bother you with bills or receipts until you check out which can be a heart stopping experience. :)

I think there are currently some Aman special rates for Indonesia , maybe that will help you decide.

You should come in Vesak Day to Borobudur.. They fly 1000 lanterns over Borobudur Temple and it is an amazing moment too see..
