Books to read before visiting Bhutan

Hi folks -- I'll be visiting Bhutan in September. Any great historial fiction books I should read beforehand or while there? All suggestions welcomed! Thanks.

It isn't fiction, but "A Journey Into Bhutan", by Jamie Zeppa, was a nice account of a young woman who taught English in a very rural school in Bhutan. I enjoyed it.

Thanks so much Lcuy -- I'm surprised you are the only one who has made a recommendation! Must be a scarcity on books (fiction or non-fiction) on Bhutan!

General Books:
- Also recommend "Beyond the Sky and Earth: A Journey into Bhutan" by Jamie Zeppa
- Insight Guide Bhutan
- "The Blessings of Bhutan" by Russ and Blyth Carpenter

Films:
- Must see "Travellers and Magicians." Secret trivia point: the male star of the film is the Bhutanese man that Jamie Zeppa fell in love with and married.
- "The Other Final." Excellent documentary!

I strongly recommend the classic Bhutan by Francoise Pommaret; So close to Heaven by Barbara Crosette (both published in the USA) & a fantastic "coffee table" book with extraordinary photos by the name of "Bhutan Mountain Fortress of the Gods" published by Shambala (Boston). These three cover all aspects of this tiny paradise. Enjoy!

Hi there, I read Jaime Zeppa's Beyond the Sky and the Earth: A Journey into Bhutan on my recent trip to Bhutan (we were there from May 25th 2007 to June 2nd 2007). It was a great choice! I started on the plane ride from Philadelphia and finished on my 5th day of my trip. It added so much richness to our journey! I highly recommend it!

I'm traveling to Bhutan next April and am finding the same dearth of books available. Even guide books seem to be in low supply/demand. I found one LP book at my local travel bookstore and NOTHING in BN. Can't wait to read Jamie Zeppa's book and thanks for the movie tips.
