Books on Myanmar/ Burma

As stated in my previous post I'm off to Burma in a few months.
Before I go I would like to buy some books and read up a bit. Could someone please point me in the direction of a bibliography? In addition, as I am a very amateur Military Historian could you also suggest books on the military history of Burma?
Burma is the last of the SE-Asian countries I have to visit and am looking forward to the trip tremendously (counting the days).

I posted a reading list here a couple of years ago. I'll find it and post the link. I'm a reader and regularly read extensively before my trips. I read more books before my first Burma trip than I've read for any other - and I think the deep background paid off.

Ok, here is the link: http://www.fodors.com/community/asia...-bookshelf.cfm

I also topped the thread for people's additions to this list.

If you want to get in the right spirit for eating your way through Burma - I recommend Naomi Duguid's new-ish book "Burma, Rivers of Flavor". It is a cookbook, but Naomi is as interested in the culture as the food, so she merges the two beautifully. The book has been getting tons of good press and nominations for awards - I personally cook from it quite a bit so can endorse it from experience.
