Bomb @ The Traders Hotel in Yangon Wounds Tourist

I haven't seen anything in the American media but read about this in the Guardian. I certainly don't want to fear monger but I thought those of you who will be in Yangon soon might want to be aware of this.

It was one of several bombings though the hotel bomb was the only one in which tourists may have being targeted. Its certainly something to note, though the information around the events seem somewhat murky at this point.

I have to say it makes me glad I'll be staying in a modest hotel in Yangon.

I'm sorry to hear of this. I would like to know more of what this is about. Most of the recent violence in Burma has been sectarian violence and this does not fit the pattern. Given how very infrequently violence has been directed at visitors, I doubt that where you stay will have any impact on your very low risk of being caught in something like this.

Thanks for that link, Hanuman.

Karen insurgents are blamed for this spate of bombings. Are they the only remaining insurgent group that has not signed a truce with the government?
