BKK + where for a smooth ride?

I plan to go to BKk with my husband in Oct. and to add on one other destination for a few days but can't do anything "jarring" because of some recent surgery. I've heard the roads are good in C.Mai but how about Siam Riep or C. Rai? Thanks for any advice!

The roads around Siem Reap are not smooth. However, the roads around Chiang Rai are quite good. If you were considering a stay at the Anantara at the Golden Triangle, I think that would work for you.

Thanks Kathie-I definitely am considering the Anantara at CR or the FS at CM. Maybe we'll save the temples at SR for the next trip.

It sounds wise. Visiting Angkor can be pretty strenuous. Relaxing at the Anantara or the Four Seasons sounds like a better way to recover!

I'm thinking that the FS may be better in that when I visit the Anantara, I will want to do the elephant excursion. At the FS, there is plenty of other things to do that just include walking, right?

you could also visit to hua hin just south of bkk....its a car ride on decent roads....great hotels...

I haven't stayed at the 4 Seasons outside of CM, but if you just stay there, it sounds very relaxing, nothing strenuous.

Bob's idea of Hua Hin is an interesting one. If you just want to relax, Hua Hin is a 2.5-3 hour drive from Bangkok on good roads. The beach is just ok, but there are some really lovely hotels there: in town, I'd opt for the Sofitel, the Anantara is lovely - choose the Deluxe Lagoon rooms, or the Hyatt, choose the Regency Club.

Thanks and I'll keep that in mind however, won't be doing any swimming, just walking, spa-ing.
