BKK to Angkor Wat - tour recommendation

Would like to visit Angkor Wat from Thailand. Need recommendations for tour group that might be less expensive than booking air/hotel/etc. on our own. Seems like between the air, hotel, guide and food, it would run about $900 for 2 adults. Anything less expensive? Thanks for any/all info. (Also posted on Cambodia site)

If you fly directly to Siem Reap from Bangkok there is only one airline Bangkok Air and it has the route sowed up until 2008. The cost for 2 is around $600 return plus airport taxes. That eats up a majority of the $900 you mentioned. Good hotels with a pool can be had for $75 or less. Plus there is the pass plus transportation and food. So for 4days/3nights around $1000-1100. A tour will cost you more than doing it on your own and it is easy arranging things.

If you want to save money on getting there you could fly early morning to Phnom Penh with Air Asia for between $54 -100 each return (excluding airport taxes) and then catch the 12.30 bus to SR ($10 each way per person) which takes around 5 hrs. Coming back you do have to overnight in PP but it is well worth a day or two to visit.

"...there is only one airline Bangkok Air and it has the route sowed up until 2008."

Scotters - Will other airlines start flying that route in 2008? We are planning on doing it in March 2008 and a bit frustrated Bangkok Air is the only one.

I don't think anyone knows what exactly will happen but there is the possibility of discount airlines being able to fly this route. Time will tell.

The Bangkok Air agremrent runs out in 2009 not 2008. Sorry about that
