I'm in my 40s and Nick's No. 1 does sound vaguely familiar. I'll try and ask some people in their 50s and 60s if they remember the restaurant and what happened to it.
About the musician - can't think of how I can get information for you with this one. There is the "Thailand International Jazz Festival" right now and I attend it every night. Will try to find more 60 years old Jazz musician at the festival and ask for you.

Sorry for the confusion with two questions - appreciate your help.. Anton is only about early 30's. His nickname is Kojak because he shaves his head. Originally from Southampton, England. Jazz festival sounds like a lot of fun.. sorry we'll miss it.
It would appear that Nick's disappeared after the Vietnam war ended and the influx of non-voluntary Americans in that area dropped.

I cannot tell you what happened to it, but I can tell you that it was very much alive and well in the mid 80s. I know because I went there several times whilst working in BKK in 1985-86. I stumbled on this forum as I was Googling for Nick's No. 1, and wanted to see if it still existed, as I am going to Thailand next month.
